What's even better than a career that fulfills you? A career that improves your community at the same time. Kelli Wormley knew that a career in healthcare would not only reward her but also enrich her patients' lives. That's why she enrolled in Rockford Career College's medical assistant program. By diligently studying, developing her practical skills, and completing an externship in a local healthcare setting, Kelli prepared for the road ahead. We are extremely proud of Kelli for graduating from the program and starting her new career.

What You Learn in a Medical Assistant Program

For each graduate of a program, we highlight three different courses. During the program, Kelli took courses such as: Regulatory Issues in Health Information, MA Technology Fundamentals, and Medical Terminology and Systems.

In these courses, she learned about:

  • The delivery of healthcare services; documentation of care; rights and responsibilities of providers, employees, payers, and patients in a healthcare context; and legal terminology pertaining to civil liability and the judicial and legislative processes
  • Microsoft Windows and its applications, such as desktop features, search capabilities, and file management, as well as creating, editing, and formatting documents and spreadsheets
  • Medical terminology required to function successfully in a professional medical office

How Our Graduate Became a Medical Assistant

Like Kelli, you too could become a medical assistant in just a matter of months and start your career journey in this interesting and necessary profession. During the program, you will have the opportunity to complete a 170-hour externship with 160 hours in a healthcare setting, giving you real-world experience before you even graduate. We are here to help you with the details like completing the enrollment process and connecting with local employers. The College even offers financial aid to those who qualify!
