“Never let the fear of striking out keep you from playing the game.” This Babe Ruth quote inspired Pamela Wolf to take a chance on her dream career.1  After enrolling in Rockford Career College's Associate of Applied Science in Veterinary Technician degree program, Pamela studied hard and developed her technical skills. We could not be prouder of her for graduating on the Dean's List and beginning a new life serving animals and their owners. “Remember your goals and never give up!” says Pamela.

What You Learn in a Veterinary Technician AAS Program

Our career programs are designed to provide students with relevant, in-demand skills. Our AAS programs go beyond by allowing students to complete an advanced level of course work in their chosen field and develop general education skill sets in areas such as English, history, and math. For each graduate of a program, we highlight three different courses. During the program, Pamela took courses such as: Large Animal Medical Techniques, Veterinary Office Management, and Microbiology.

In these courses, she learned about:
• Common procedures with large animals with emphasis placed on restraint, administration of medication, and physical examination
• Proper record keeping, client communication skills, OSHA regulations and guidelines, inventory, career opportunities, employment skills, and assisting with client bereavement
• Classification, physiology, and morphology of disease-causing microorganisms; proper laboratory techniques; and performing diagnostic testing of pathogens

In addition to veterinary technician-specific courses, Pamela completed courses such as Introduction to Psychology and History of American Government to fulfill general education requirements for her associate degree.
