Campus President Michael O'Herron

Campus President

Michael O'Herron - Mike has been Rockford Career College's Campus President since January 2015. For over 20 years, he has been working in various career colleges. “I do what I do because there is nothing more powerful than seeing students achieve success!” he explains.

A non-traditional college student himself, Mike knows about the struggles his students face. That's why he promises to fight for your success. One way he does this is through his open-door policy. Always open to working with a student one-on-one, Mike sets aside office time to listen to and resolve students' issues.

In his spare time, Mike enjoys spending time with family and friends as well as participating in sports. He coaches his daughter's softball team, plays plenty of golf, and runs and bikes regularly. A Certified High School Varsity Football & Basketball Official with the Illinois High School Association (IHSA), Mike has over 20 years of experience officiating regular season and postseason contests.

No matter which career program you choose, Mike is excited to help you on your vocational journey. “Welcome to Rockford Career College,” he says. “I can't wait to see you achieve your career goals and, most importantly, shake your hand as you walk across the stage at graduation!”

Academic Dean

Dean of Students

Danielle Harriott - While it's easy to focus on what you cannot control, there is a major aspect of your life you could choose: your career. Starting a career you love is a rewarding experience that could help you secure a better future as well as boost your happiness and self-confidence. As Rockford Career College's academic dean, Danielle Harriott finds joy in helping students reach their career goals.

Danielle identifies with our students so well because, in 1997, she became an RCC alumni. She went on to earn her Associate of Applied Science in Paralegal degree from Rockford Business College. Danielle also holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Management degree from National Louis University in Elgin, Illinois. For over 17 years, she enjoyed working in the paralegal field.

By returning to RCC, Danielle was able to share her paralegal experience with students. In 2012, she started her education career as an adjunct instructor for the paralegal program. “I quickly fell in
love with education and helping my students shine,” Danielle says. In May of 2013, she became the paralegal program director. Finally, she accepted the academic dean position.

“I am extremely passionate about people and teaching others how to believe in themselves,” states Danielle. “Being a part of a student’s journey to a new career from start to finish is a gift.” Her commitment to student success is reflected in not only her students' accomplishments but also the numerous awards she has received. Danielle earned the Swank Award for Leadership and Excellence in 2017, Employee of the Quarter Award in 2014, Lambda Epsilon Chi Honor Society Award in 2001, and Alpha Beta Kappa Honor Society Award in 1999.

Addiction Counseling Technician Diploma Program Zachary Hansen

Addiction Counseling Technician Diploma Program

Zachary Hansen - What will you learn today? Learning is a lifelong endeavor, and having a terminal degree doesn't mean you can't learn something new. Zachary, lead instructor for the addiction counseling technician diploma program, firmly believes this.

Zachary received his bachelor's degree in social science and master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling from Mercer University. Specializing in abnormal psychology/psychology, he also earned his Master Addiction Counselor certification as well as his addiction services certification. Since 2008, Zachary has been working in different areas of mental health services. He has experience in drug court intervention, addiction counseling, mental health counseling, hospitalization assessment, level of care placement, and supervision. Zachary has worked with clients aged 7 to 102. A significant amount of his time was dedicated to working in residential/inpatient settings with acutely affected psychiatric patients and acute detox patients.

Even with all of this career experience, Zachary is aware that he still has much to learn. “Anyone in a field working with people who thinks they know it all or who has 'mastered their craft' is mistaken, in my humble opinion,” Zachary remarks. “Even the best counselors, psychologists, psychiatrists, doctors, teachers, and other people-based/service occupations are learning every day; or, unfortunately, they are falling behind their peers who are. Be open to learning and embrace it!”
