DATE On April 14, 2022

"Keep pushing yourself to be the best you can be," says Rockford Career College graduate Rickyeshia Burnett. Even when Rickyeshia faced obstacles on the path to her ideal career, determination kept her moving forward. We are extremely proud of Rickyeshia for graduating from our welding program and starting a new career.

What You Learn in a Welding Program

For each graduate of a program, we highlight three different courses. During the program, Rickyeshia took courses such as: Thermal Cutting and Metal Preparation, GMAW Plate, and Professional Success Strategies.

In these courses, she learned about:

  • Cutting and shaping metals using various thermal cutting techniques
  • Fundamentals of the MIG Welding (GMAW) process, including wirefeed welding procedures, GMAW equipment identification, the filler metals and shielding gases used to perform GMAW, and the making of multiple pass fillet and V-groove welds on carbon steel plate in various positions
  • Portraying professionalism in behavior, presentation, dress, and work ethic, as well as the professional standards of the industry

How Our Graduate Became a Welder

Like Rickyeshia, you too could become a welder in just a matter of months and start your career journey in this interesting and necessary profession. During your hands-on training in the on-campus lab, you could familiarize yourself with a variety of welding types. Our program covers gas, shielded metal arc (STICK), metal inert gas (MIG), flux core, and tungsten inert gas (TIG) welding. Additionally, we pay for students to test for a welding process to earn a Certified Welding Inspection report with the American Welding Society.
