“What we do for ourselves dies with us; what we do for others lives on forever.” Rockford Career College graduate Alma Bullman chose her career based on these words. Wanting to serve pets and their families, she enrolled in our Associate of Applied Science in Veterinary Technician degree program. Her hard work and dedication to animals helped her graduate on the Dean's List. We are extremely  proud of her for earning her degree and beginning the career of her dreams.

What You Learn in a Veterinary Technician AAS Program

For each graduate of a program, we highlight three different courses. During the program, Alma took courses such as: Veterinary Medical Terminology, Large Animal Medical Techniques, and Microbiology.

In these courses, she learned about:

  • The structure of medical words; word meanings based on the prefixes, root words, and suffixes found in combination; and directional and descriptive terms
  • Common procedures with large animals with emphasis placed on restraint, administration of medication, and physical examination
  • The classification, physiology, and morphology of disease-causing microorganisms

Alma also completed courses such as Introduction to Psychology and History of American Government to meet general education requirements.
