"While a negative habit can slow your progress and adversely influence your lifestyle, a positive habit can greatly improve it. It can bring positivity, possibilities, progress, health, wealth, abundance, happiness, love and success in your life."  This Stellan Moreira quote encouraged Kerry Caldwell to develop more positive habits, such as studying to begin a new career.1 After enrolling in Rockford Career College's medical assistant program, Kerry put in a tremendous amount of effort to succeed in her classes. She graduated on our President's List with a 4.0 GPA. We are extremely proud of Kerry for achieving her academic and professional goals.

What You Learn in a Medical Assistant Program

For each graduate of a program, we highlight three different courses. During the program, Kerry took courses such as: MA Technology Fundamentals, Cardiac Care, and Student Success Strategies.

In these courses, she learned about:

  • Microsoft Windows and its applications, such as desktop features, search capabilities, and file management, as well as creating, editing, and formatting documents and spreadsheets
  • The main body systems involved in cardiology (cardiovascular and respiratory); pulmonary issues including lung volume and capacity, pulmonary diseases, and airway obstructions; maintaining and operating electrocardiogram and pulmonary equipment; and identifying causes and corrections of artifacts
  • The basic principles to achieve success in various settings, including time and stress management strategies; study skills; professionalism; policies and procedures; learning and communication methods; and basic word processing, presentation, and spreadsheet software skills
