DATE On March 17, 2022

“I wanted to give up, but then I remembered who was watching,” says Rockford Career College graduate Amy Brewer. “To my Father in heaven—this one is for you!” Even when her coursework seemed challenging, Amy never lost sight of her goal. All of us at Rockford Career College are so proud of her for graduating from the program on the Dean's List and becoming a paralegal.

What You Learn in a Paralegal Program

For each graduate of a program, we highlight three different courses. During the program, Amy took courses such as: Ethics and Technology in the Law Office, Legal Research and Writing, and Civil Litigation.

In these courses, she learned about:

  • The legal and ethical concepts affecting law office management with emphasis on legal structure, filing and record keeping, and billing systems and procedures; and technology such as law office management software, case organization and management software, and electronic discovery
  • Performing factual and legal research using the Internet; developing an understanding of the function of the law library; and developing skills in research techniques, legal analysis, and legal writing
  • The structure, jurisdiction, and operation of court systems with emphasis on trial preparation and the discovery process; interviewing techniques; evidence; investigation; drafting pleadings and motions; the process of lawsuits; and third-party practice
