Business administration professionals have a wide range of responsibilities, such as: meeting project deadlines, managing conflict and change, understanding the business' financial principles and practices, and staying current with technology. However, business administration skills are transferable across a large number of industries. That's why Derick Kemp chose to enroll in our business administration program. Through hard work and perseverance, Derick acquired the various software, marketing, human resource, finance, and leadership skills he would need for his new career. All of us at Rockford Career College are extremely proud of Derick for graduating and beginning the career of his dreams.

What You Learn in a Business Administration Program

For each graduate of a program, we highlight three different courses. During the program, Derick took courses such as: Introduction to Contemporary Business Management, Building Effective Teams, and Human Resource Management for Operations Managers.

In these courses, he learned about:

  • The importance of effective business communications; team building; managing process change; finance for the manager; ethics; leadership; human resources from a manager’s perspective; information systems; and desktop software applications such as project management, word processing, spreadsheets, and presentation programs
  • The different kinds of teams found in the workplace, the selection of team members, guiding a team’s development from initial formation to working together effectively, dealing with team dysfunctions, diagnosing team strengths and weaknesses, observation and intervention skills, and conducting team building sessions
  • Interviewing and hiring candidates, orienting and training employees, setting performance expectations and goals, conducting performance evaluations and appraisals, providing counseling and coaching to employees, identifying and developing high-talent employees, handling disciplinary issues, recognizing and rewarding performance, and effectively utilizing your human resource staff
