“Keep aiming higher, be more patient, and practice positive affirmation.” This advice inspired Laquisha Foat as she pursued a medical assisting career. After enrolling at Rockford Career College, Laquisha stayed positive and continually pushed herself even when her coursework felt challenging. We are proud to say she graduated on our Dean's List and began the career she always wanted!

What You Learn in a Medical Assistant Program

For each graduate of a program, we highlight three different courses. During the program, Laquisha took courses such as: Pharmacology and Pathology, Cardiac Care, and General Anatomy & Physiology.

In these courses, she learned about:

  • Drug classification, dosage calculation, routes and methods of drug administration, prescription management, and abbreviations used in pharmacology
  • The main body systems involved in cardiology (cardiovascular and respiratory); pulmonary issues including lung volume and capacity, pulmonary diseases, and airway obstructions; maintaining and operating electrocardiogram and pulmonary equipment; and identifying causes and corrections of artifacts
  • Basic chemistry; cells and tissues; and the integumentary, skeletal, muscular, neurological, genitourinary, reproductive, and digestive systems
