“Believe in yourself. I believe in you!” Luke D'Angelo's words encouraged Kristin Lansing to finally start the career she always wanted. After enrolling in Rockford Career College's medical assistant program, Kristin never stopped trusting in her own ability. She persevered through her courses and externship, graduating on our Dean's List. All of us at RCC are so proud of Kristin for accomplishing her goal and beginning a new career serving others.

What You Learn in a Medical Assistant Program

For each graduate of a program, we highlight three different courses. During the program, Kristin took courses such as: Medical Office Emergencies, Minor Surgical Procedures, and Patient Care.

In these courses, she learned about:

  • Wound recognition and basic treatment, patient triage through primary assessment, the medical assistant’s role in emergency preparedness and response, and CPR and basic First Aid techniques and methods
  • Minor office surgical techniques with emphasis placed on surgical asepsis, infection control, preparation of the patient for minor surgery, informed consent, assisting with diagnostic procedures, postoperative care, and rehabilitative modalities
  • The medical assistant’s role in patient care including assisting with physical examinations, obtaining vital signs and anthropometric measurements, preparing and maintaining exam rooms, assisting in life span specialties, and keeping medical documentation

How Our Graduate Became a Medical Assistant

Like Kristin, you too could become a medical assistant in just a matter of months and start your career journey in this interesting and necessary profession. Before graduation, you will have the opportunity to develop practical skills by completing a 170-hour externship with 160 hours in a clinical setting. All of us at RCC are ready to assist you with the enrollment, tutoring, and career search processes. Additionally, we offer financial aid to those who qualify.
