DATE On June 24, 2022

The need for medical assistants is growing, but not everyone is ready to answer that call. Being an excellent medical assistant requires patience, great interpersonal skills, and technical knowledge. That's why we are so proud of Gisca Mboumbou for stepping up to meet demand. After applying herself in her studies and externship, Gisca graduated from Rockford Career College's medical assistant program and began serving her community.

What You Learn in a Medical Assistant Program

For each graduate of a program, we highlight three different courses. During the program, Gisca took courses such as: Regulatory Issues in Health Information, Minor Surgical Procedures, and Administrative Procedures.

In these courses, she learned about:

  • The delivery of healthcare services; documentation of care; rights and responsibilities of providers, employees, payers, and patients in a healthcare context; and legal terminology pertaining to civil liability and the judicial and legislative processes
  • Minor office surgical techniques with emphasis placed on surgical asepsis, infection control, preparation of the patient for minor surgery, informed consent, assisting with diagnostic procedures, postoperative care, and rehabilitative modalities
  • The administrative activities of a medical office with emphasis on the roles of the healthcare team, effective communication skills, and medical record management; and the legal, ethical, and cultural aspects of healthcare

How Our Graduate Became a Medical Assistant

Like Gisca, you too could become a medical assistant in just a matter of months and start your career journey in this interesting and necessary profession. During the program, you will have the opportunity to complete a 170-hour externship with 160 hours in a healthcare setting, giving you real-world experience before you even graduate. We are here to help you with the details like completing the enrollment process and connecting with local employers. The College even offers financial aid to those who qualify!
