Meet a Medical Office Billing and Coding Graduate

“Inhale the future, exhale the past.” This quote by an unknown author inspired Porshay Paden to work toward a better future in her dream career field. After enrolling at Rockford Career College, Porshay studied hard and never gave up on her professional and academic goals. We are extremely proud of Porshay for graduating and beginning her new life as a medical office billing and coding specialist.

What You Learn in a Medical Office Billing and Coding Program

For each graduate of a program, we highlight three different courses. During the program, Porshay took courses such as: Medical Coding-Diagnosis, Pathophysiology, and Claims Analysis.

In these courses, she learned about:

  • Coding medical diagnoses for medical insurance claims with emphasis placed on utilizing anatomy, physiology, and pathology in the selection of proper codes from the ICD-9-CM and ICD-10-CM coding classification systems
  • Diseases and disorders of the human body including causes, categories, terminology, pharmaceutical applications, signs, symptoms, and treatment
  • Completion of the UB-04, identifying and addressing claims errors; occurrence, value, and revenue code usage; compliance; and practices and procedures required in claims processes
