What You Learn in a Medical Assistant Diploma Program

For each graduate of a program, we highlight three different courses. During the program, Alejandra took courses such as: Patient Care, Pharmacology and Pathology, Regulatory Issues in Health Information, and more.

In these courses, she learned about:

  • Assisting with physical examinations, obtaining vital signs and anthropometric measurements, preparation and maintenance of exam rooms, assisting in life span specialties, and maintaining medical documentation
  • Drug classification, dosage calculation, routes and methods of drug administration, prescription management, and abbreviations used in pharmacology
  • The delivery of healthcare services; documentation of care; rights and responsibilities of providers, employees, payers, and patients in a healthcare context; and legal terminology pertaining to civil liability and the judicial and legislative processes

These courses were complemented by a 170-hour externship with 160 hours in a healthcare setting.
