DATE On March 21, 2018

Have a heart for wagging tails and pouncing paws? So do we! Rockford Career College offers a comprehensive veterinary technician training program featuring hands-on experience and a wonderful faculty. Dr. Heather Wells is one such instructor ready to prepare you for your dream career.

Inspiration for Dr. Wells' future career struck early in life. Raised on a dairy farm surrounded by horses, dogs, pigs, and more, Dr. Wells developed a love for all animals. Her admiration for the family's veterinarians developed into a drive to follow in their footsteps. In 2003, she graduated from Iowa State University with her bachelor of science in animal science. Four years later, Dr. Wells earned her DVM degree.

Dr. Wells' passion led her to a variety of workplaces. Her first job out of school was at Orangeville Animal Health Services. There, she practiced medicine and surgery on both large and small animals. After moving in 2008, she worked for Belvidere Family Pet Hospital until the end of November 2015. Dr. Wells exclusively cared for small animals both there and at her next workplace, Noah's Ark Animal Hospital. It was January 2018 when she was welcomed into the RCC family as an instructor.

The decision to teach was a natural one for the renowned veterinarian. “I decided to come to the teaching side of things because I always enjoyed teaching the technicians and assistants that I worked with,” Dr. Wells writes. “I truly believe that veterinary technicians are the backbone of a practice, and a good technician is such an asset to the clinic. Rockford Career College has a reputation of graduating veterinary technicians that excel at their careers, and I wanted to be able to help continue this tradition.”
