We Proudly Present Medical Assistant Graduate Berniceka Ellis
DATE On January 18, 2022

“The only thing standing between you and your goal is the story you keep telling yourself as to why you can't achieve it.”1 This quote from Jordan Belfort inspired Berniceka Ellis to take control of her professional future rather than succumb to negativity. After enrolling in Rockford Career College's medical assistant program, Berniceka studied hard and completed hands-on training to prepare for a new career. We are very proud of her for graduating on the President's List with a 4.0 GPA.

What You Learn in a Medical Assistant Program

For each graduate of a program, we highlight three different courses. During the program, Berniceka took courses such as: Patient Care, Medical Billing Fundamentals, and Cardiac Care.

In these courses, she learned about:

  • Assisting with physical examinations, obtaining vital signs and anthropometric measurements, preparing and maintaining examination rooms, assisting in life span specialties, and recording medical documentation
  • The insurance and billing processes with emphasis on major insurance companies, claim submission, reimbursement practices, bookkeeping procedures, and coding systems used in healthcare
  • The main body systems involved in cardiology (cardiovascular and respiratory); pulmonary issues including lung volume and capacity, pulmonary diseases, and airway obstructions; maintaining and operating electrocardiogram and pulmonary equipment; and identifying causes and corrections of artifacts

These courses were supplemented with a 170-hour externship with 160 hours in a clinical setting.
