DATE On January 19, 2022

Ready for a healthcare career, Tuwaina Nolen did not stop at earning her diploma. After completing Rockford Career College's medical assistant program, she continued on to our Associate of Applied Science in Healthcare Administration program. After enrolling, Tuwaina studied diligently and kept pressing forward with her goal always in mind. All of us at RCC are extremely proud of Tuwaina for graduating and achieving her academic and professional goals.

What You Learn in a Healthcare Administration AAS Program

Our medical assistant program is designed to provide students with relevant, in-demand skills. Our AAS programs go beyond by allowing students to complete an advanced level of course work in their
chosen field and develop general education skill sets in areas such as English, history, and math. For each graduate of a program, we highlight three different courses. During the healthcare administration associate degree program, Tuwaina took courses such as: Management for the Healthcare Professional, Diversity Issues and Challenges in Healthcare, and Healthcare Systems and Practice in the U.S.

In these courses, she learned about:

  • Issues and skills involved in effectively managing the healthcare professional, including team building and cross-discipline communication and collaboration
  • General diversity challenges that exist in current healthcare settings
  • Healthcare demands, costs, supplies, and recipients; customer-focused healthcare practices; the organizational structure of various healthcare settings; the concept of managed care; and foundational principles of professional communication and performance

In addition to healthcare administration-specific subjects, Tuwaina completed general education courses such as Oral Communications and Life Science to fulfill associate degree requirements.
