Rockford Career College Community Outreach Coordinator Jason Payne shared his experience representing Rockford Career College at the Boone County Fair:

"I had a great time representing Rockford Career College at the Boone County Fair last week! People were very interested in the Vet Tech’s Cattle and Horse Skull we had displayed at the table. I was able to have kids and adults guess the animal each skull belonged to for a prize. Once the type of farm animal was identified I then asked them to give me identifying characteristics of each. (i.e. job bone line, teeth, bite, eye socket size of overall skull etc.) It was fun for all ages, people won prizes like koozies, 12oz cups, lanyards and/or Frisbees.

Once a group of people were around I talked about the livestock competition here and how this industry is imperative to each and every one of the animals, let alone domestic animals. I also reiterated when working with animals, the good, the bad and, unfortunately, the sad, can all be a part of a normal work day. Veterinary assistants and technicians who work in veterinary facilities, from private practices to laboratories and research centers (even zoos) experience nearly every range of care during the course of their work day.

Overall it was a fun and informative experience for all the great people that attended the fair."
